Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask before their first visit. If your question is not here, call (905) 276-0777 or email info@notarypoint.ca.

Do I need an appointment?

No. Walk-ins are welcome Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday visits are by appointment only. If you prefer a set time, book online and we will be ready for you.

What identification do I need?

Bring one valid, original government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s licence, passport or Ontario Photo Card. For affidavits, an ID that shows your current address is best. Expired ID and photocopies cannot be accepted.

How much does notarization cost?

Notarization starts at $30 per document, and we offer a discount when you bring several documents in one visit. Drafting is available for affidavits, declarations and invitation letters; the fee depends on the document, so ask us and we will quote before starting. See the /pricing/ page.

Should I sign my document before I arrive?

No. Affidavits and statutory declarations must be signed in front of the notary. If you have already signed, we will ask you to sign a fresh copy.

Are you really lawyers?

Yes. Notarizations at Notary Point are performed by lawyers licensed by the Law Society of Ontario who hold notary public appointments and act as commissioners for taking affidavits.

What is the difference between a notary public and a commissioner of oaths?

A commissioner for taking affidavits can administer oaths and take affidavits and declarations. A notary public can do that and also certify true copies and witness documents for use outside Ontario. All of our staff who notarize are lawyers, and lawyers in Ontario are both.

Can you notarize a document online or by video?

No. Ontario law requires the notary to be physically present with you, and the Ontario government will not apostille a document that was notarized remotely. We are a walk-in, in-person office.

Can you translate my document?

We do not provide translations, but we can refer you to certified translators in Mississauga and then notarize the translator’s affidavit or certify copies.

Can you come to my home or hospital?

Not at this time. All appointments are at our office at 33 City Centre Drive.

Where do I park?

Two hours of free parking is available on the premises at 33 City Centre Drive. Let the front desk know you are visiting Suite 606.

Are you wheelchair accessible?

Yes. The building, the sixth-floor office and the washrooms are wheelchair accessible.

What languages do you speak?

English and Hindi. For documents in other languages, the person signing must understand the document; we can discuss interpreter or translation options.

Can you witness a document that will be used in another country?

Yes, and we will tell you if it needs an apostille or authentication from Official Documents Services afterwards. See /documents-for-use-outside-canada/.

Do you give legal advice?

Notary Point provides notary and commissioner services. Our notaries are lawyers and can answer general questions about your document. For advice on your legal matter, we can refer you to Law Wise Professional Corporation in the same office.

What if my document needs a witness who is not the notary?

We can provide a second witness from our staff at no extra charge for wills and powers of attorney. Tell us when you arrive.
